Fiction or Nonfiction

Hey Everyone!

As you can see the title is what we will be discussing today. I have had several people ask me how to decide either of those and many have asked me if you can mix the two together in their novels.

Now, some may say, “No”, however, I would say, “Why not?”

A simple definition of fiction is made-up events, characters and locations.

A simple definition of non-fiction is based on real events, people and locations.

I know of one author who has mixed both a made-up storyline to real locations and it was perfectly executed. The author's way of meshing its story together gave the reader a way to see what the characters were seeing as it grabbed the attention of the surrounding area to which they lived in.

I, myself, prefer both as well. In my The Drive Series & Dark Secrets novels are some real people and made-up characters but their personalities can be revered as persons I have met along the way in my life as well.

I think the most important of either is to decide what your novel will begin to be. When starting out I like to watch how people look like, their motions, their personalities, who they are in general and captivate my storyline to be.

As children, we all had that imagination when were playing with friends, family or other children in the neighborhood. Some make believe is as easy as closing the eyelids and drifting into a daydream of sorts and others come from the essences of life.

Still fiction could bring out the best of the novel itself just by the sheer locations the author dreams of and I think that’s when the real fiction begins.

Say your daydream brings you out of the world into space and you think the characters can breathe without a mask or helmet on their heads. What do you think would be their adventure? Where would they travel to? How would they live? Why are they doing the things they are doing? When will they reach their journey’s end?

All of this is built solely on fiction; the made-up ability you create, isn’t that amazing!

I love the non-fiction real events I also have in my novels as well. Now, some are made-up and some real places to which my characters visit, stay for a while and live at.

The ability to grab the attention of said readers with their eyes, minds and feelings is all but the miracle of what fiction and non-fiction can do.

I find that researching certain things for both fiction & non-fiction helps a ton when you are creating something out of nothing. The blank canvas is something to marvel at much like a painter does before they do what they love.

For me, before I start any novel I research for about three months to where, or whatever I chose the novel will take place. I love to think outside of the box sort to speak. I believe it takes a whole new meaning of where the readers will be in a time, place or dream state that will captivate them with the first sentence.

To my best knowledge at least for me is when reading the reviews from others in the good, the crazy, and even the impossible feelings that said reviewer felt from my books. To me, it is still a learning curve moment.

Fiction is about being vulnerable but ever being present when presenting your novel to the world. The critics can be harsh but effective and as long as you see it as a way to become a better author in your acknowledgement of what you write about will make a difference in yourself as well.

Fiction can teach, exclaim, mesmerize, and many other things and feelings for your readers. The trick for me is just to write everything down I am feeling, thinking about and seeing for the day like a daily journal. I have countless journals since I was a child, a teenager, and even into my adulthood.

I can easily go back to a certain time in my life and read what I wrote and again, connect what I was feeling at that time while installing it into one or many of my characters.

Many people have asked over the years, “Are anything in this book about your life?”

Ding, ding, ding, “Yes, some is and some isn’t.”

The fact that you can say you have written a novel in your life as I can makes a world of difference. Yes, it is scary to place something out into the world that you have written but it is equally satisfying knowing that I have left an imprint in the world no one can take away from me.

I, literally, own the rights, the creativeness, the words, the pages, and the spine of the book to my hard determination that my fiction/non-fiction novels are all on my own made-up and real beliefs. As it is in my hopes that one day someone will read it, know what I was trying to convey, teaches that there is always a way to make your life, a reality in someone else’s eyes and hearts.

So, what have we learned today?

Whether it is fiction or non-fiction you seek to write about is all up to you and never waiver the ability to get your message out there in your own admissions. Being creative, determined, resourceful, courageous and empowered in your writings are just the start of who you will become in the future.

I hope this has helped you today on your path for writing your truths and if for any reason you have more questions, please feel free to ask me at my author’s inbox @ https://www.facebook.com/authormarinaobrix/
